-It's not rocket science to say this team needs to close out games. If this game is up for grabs in the fourth quarter they have to pull it out.
-The injuries are not a result of a more relaxed training camp. That leads to strains and pulls. Not rupstured achilles tendons, torn pecs, torn ACL's etc
-I can't think of much we need to improve on offense outside of less costly penalties along the line. Before we compltely condemn Smith on the QB sneak due to failing on the infamous one, remember how easily he scored on the goaline previous to that
-How will the Riders cover Arceneaux this game? Weldon Brown did a good job last game but is out. Can Jackson and Tisdale get it done? Can Hollins handle half; a position that may be harder than corner with the wide field
-BC had succes with the screen to Harris. Not a surprised consideirng our young linebackers might not read it as quickly as vets. Will the Lions go back to it a lot?
-Teams are playing good defence and holding opponents to the 20-25 point range. No "new rule" excuses. Other teams are finding a way.
-Another unsung hero from last week is Dan Clark. I saw a few occasions where he managed to block Elimimian out of the middle, clearing a path for Allen and Messam. Not an easy task! Can he do it again this week?
Things I found interesting from the stats page:
-No surprise that we rank near the bottom in all pass D stats. 80% completions against is outrageous. So far every QB playing the Riders has been a star of the week.
-Surprisingly we are middle of the pack in sacks. I whould have thought we would be lower. Conversely we are #1 offensively in sacks allowed.
-Ryan Smith is still one of the top receivers despite missing a game
-Doughty and Knox Jr are in the top 11 in league tackles. Doughty has 14 in just 2 games. Despite the issues so far this year these two and Hollins show promise.
-Ray Early is justifying his roster spot ranking near the top in punting average and net average
A tall taks ahead tomorrow with another key guy out. We need the reinforcemenats to step up and the walking wounded who aren't out for the year to return. With all that has gone on, this team really needs a win tomorrow. The team remains unified on the inside, but how long can that last if the losses keep piling up? Come on Riders. Let's do this.
