Saw it a couple of weeks ago. I think it was Spike that had a Burt Reynolds marathon. Watched The Longest Yard (again) and Smokey And The Bandit.
I may watch the new one, but I don't think there's any way Adam Sandler does a better job than Burt.

I don't remember the original being so much a comedy as what this Sandler one will be.....I think I'll take a pass. (no pun intended :) )

You're right. At the end of the movie where Reynolds is walking away and Eddie Albert is screaming to shoot him, I wonder what Sandler is going to do there?

Picked up the "Lockdown Edition" of the old version today for $11 at A&B. Comes with a $6.50 rebate coupon to see the new one in theatres. So, that makes this DVD pretty cheap. I have never seen the original and am very interested in seeing the new Sandler version.

The original was action/drama with some comedic moments, this new one is comedy with some action/drama thrown in. The original had Randall "tex" cobb and others turning in surprisingly good performances as cons and football players...I wonder who is filling those roles in the new one..

Star Wars has not nor ever will excite me!
Me too, the movies are impressive but I will never be a big fan, LOTR movies are better.

Watched the new edition DVD of Longest Yard. First time I've seen it. Its a pretty good movie and definitely funny. I watched the sneak peak feature for the new one and its gonna be hilarious. One funny note is during a shoot, Sandler gets on the mic and tells the extras playing the audience "...and don't tell my mom about me playing the foosball".

A girl not being excited by Star Wars??
That has to be one of the least shocking things i've ever heard.

It sure will be a great remake of the original movie, just think of how you can modernize it.

Saw it yesterday at a matinee and it was really good - you guys who love watching football "hits" will like it, there's lots of them.
We laughed at Sandler's #18 (Manning, anyone?) but assumed it was the number Reynolds wore in the original.........
Just so happened that last night they were showing the original on TV so we watched that too. They stayed pretty true to the original and yes, the original wasn't as much of a comedy.
Reynolds wore #22 in the original so it must have been a Manning reference all right (and Nelly should have worn #28... :D :D :D )

This is one of those "I'll wait 'til it comes out on DVD" deals for me.
It will be hard to top the original. The scene where Burt nails Ray Nitschke in the groin not once but twice still makes me cringe!

Actually, as far as sports movies goes, I didn't think this one was that great. There were some funny moments, but overall, it just didn't do it for me. Not horrible, but not great either.

That is about as good as I could expect it. I will wait on forking out the big coin for it, it is not a movie that requires viewing on a large screen with surround sound to improve the viewing quality, so let those mega theatres rot in their $13.50 price tag.

Very funny...fan of Jim Rome's 'clones' Rammer?
Actually I liked this movie. It was pretty good-too many wrestlers though but other than that I liked it. Didn't overdo it on the super slow-motion shots (i.e. Any Given Sunday) but still had some cheesy moments like the double drop kick during the game (i.e. The Replacements).
Not the greatest movie when it came to character development but if you're in it for the football hits it was decent.

Actually no, but I do listen on occasion and can find the odd thing pretty funny. If he didn't repeat himself silly or drag out a point to stretch his show to three hours, I would enjoy it.

When I saw that the running back was named "Meggett" and Chris Berman was doing the play-by-play, I was waiting for that inevitable line.
