This new poll is very interesting, particularly the section on credibility. I'll refrain from editorial comment.

The Liberals acknowledge their own polling shows that their leader has been tainted by the sponsorship scandal. But Steve McKinnon, the party's national director, says the Liberals still view Martin as being their strongest asset.
"When Canadians must judge between Paul Martin, Stephen Harper, Jack Layton and Gilles Duceppe ... they will choose Paul Martin because of his track record," McKinnon told CTV News.
Strongest asset?? Track record???? Wow. :confused

Well, well, well it seems that tossing around other folks money like a Gotti doesn't work all that good after all.

When Canadians were asked which party leader they would most like to have dinner with, both Martin (23 per cent) and Layton (25 per cent) edged out Harper, who polled at 19 per cent.
Harper.....LOL
No one will eat with him because he'll make you loose
your appetite fast with all his riteous babble he spews out.
Ouch.

But at least he might pick up the tab or at least split as opposed to Martin who would reach into your pocket to pay the whole thing and then deny knowing anything about it. :smirk:

I think a lot of people like to talk about this topic despite the fact that they know very little or perhaps none of the facts. It's one thing to complain, and its another to be informed and demand change. Let's wait for the end of the inquiry please.

Ummm, yeah okay. I'm sure Paul and Jean Chretien and all the rest of them are completely innocent. If they indeed didn't know what was going on and aren't completely corrupt, then they're completely clueless. What would you rather have?

So, why didn't Martin wait for the inquiry to play out before calling the last election? The main allegations were known at that time - and we didn't "need" an election at this time last year.

it would have been called by now, the inquiry isn't done yet.. what's the difference?? An election right now is the last thing we need. For me, that's the difference.

So do you have proof that they aren't innocent??? Do you know how the government works? Do you have any idea how much is involved with running the country? Do you really think that one man at the top knows everything and makes all of the decisions? Think about where you work.. Do you know everything about the companies finances? Then think about how much bigger the Canadian Government is.. It's quite possible that Mr. Martin did not know everything about what was going on. He can't do it himself. He has to rely on what other bureaucrats tell him. He's the one who is making sure that this inquiry goes along. Mr. Cretien has tried to stop the inquiry from proceeding and Mr. Martin has ensured that it continues. Did you know that??? You're criticism of my statements contained ZERO FACTS. Think about it, then wait till the decision comes down.

Martin may not have been involved in every shady deal that happened, but he sure as hell knew there was something fishy going on. He was high enough in the party that he would have at least heard stories about what was happening, and by failing to act on that information, he was condoning it.
All you have to do is look at what has happened over the last two weeks to see how far Martin will go to hold on to power. It's disgraceful. He's cutting deals with the NDP, undermining his credible finance minister, Ralph Goodale. He's doling out money left and right. He's all of a sudden interested in the genocide in Darfur because David Kilgour has made that a condition of supporting the Libs. If Chuck Cadman said that he would vote with the Libs if Paul Martin would go skinny dipping in the Rideau Canal, I'm pretty sure Martin would be making a beeline for the water.
I've said it before that the people who should be the angriest about this are the loyal, grassroots Liberal supporters. Chretien/Martin have taken a respectable party, and turned it into a joke. It's bad enough that even Justin Trudeau is saying that the Liberals "need some time in the wilderness."
